EXPERIENCE REPORT: BEULCO'S PATH TO SWITCHING TO LEAD-FREE BRASS MATERIALS
The EU is currently discussing whether lead should be included in Annex 14 of the REACH Regulation, which would entail a ban on lead.
In addition, the amendment to the German Drinking Water Ordinance, which stipulates a reduction in the lead limit from 10 to 5 micrograms per litre, which must be complied with by 12 January 2028 at the latest, has significantly increased the pressure on manufacturers and suppliers of these products.
These developments pose major challenges for distributors of products containing lead. A material changeover should not be underestimated. BEULCO itself switched to lead-free material in 2013 - and gained a lot of experience in the process.
This report provides an insight into the background, the challenges, milestones in the project and the implementation. Of course, there were also differences in theory and practice, which we are happy to share with you.
The report is also intended to give you an idea of how a changeover can succeed in practice.
